{"id":344,"date":"2019-02-16T00:31:55","date_gmt":"2019-02-15T22:31:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/netbsd.name\/?p=344"},"modified":"2019-08-03T14:56:03","modified_gmt":"2019-08-03T12:56:03","slug":"some-interesting-developments-on-netbsd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/netbsd.name\/?p=344","title":{"rendered":"Some interesting developments on NetBSD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since I didn&#8217;t write any news update for a while, lately some interesting developments were happening in few NetBSD areas which I would like to share. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Virtualization is one of these areas, it received few interesting updates recently. The first one is Intel HAXM <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.netbsd.org\/tnf\/entry\/the_hardware_assisted_virtualization_challenge\">hardware-accelerated support.<\/a> You can also read an independently written how-to <a href=\"http:\/\/polprog.net\/blog\/netbsd-hax\/\">here<\/a>.  It works with Intel CPUs with VTx only. Another one is NetBSD Virtual Machine Monitor or <a href=\"http:\/\/m00nbsd.net\/4e0798b7f2620c965d0dd9d6a7a2f296.html\">NVVM<\/a>.  Initially it supported AMD CPUs only, but recently it was <a href=\"http:\/\/cvsweb.netbsd.org\/bsdweb.cgi\/src\/share\/man\/man4\/nvmm.4.diff?r1=1.2&amp;r2=1.3\">updated<\/a> to support Intel CPUs too. You can read It is a good time to start testing them. <strong>Update:<\/strong> the developer recently added the detailed NVVM presentation article to the official NetBSD <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.netbsd.org\/tnf\/entry\/from_zero_to_nvmm\">blog<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another area was <a href=\"http:\/\/netbsd.org\/~kamil\/eurobsdcon2018_sanitizers.html\">LLVM sanitizers<\/a> and improved LLVM support (reports can be found in NetBSD blog <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.netbsd.org\/tnf\/entry\/the_netbsd_support_update_before\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.netbsd.org\/tnf\/entry\/netbsd_entering_2019_with_more\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.netbsd.org\/tnf\/entry\/the_first_report_on_lld\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.netbsd.org\/tnf\/entry\/final_report_on_clang_lld\">here<\/a>). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One more hot topic is RISC-V architecture recently. Especially, once WD released their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westerndigital.com\/company\/innovations#risc-v\">SweRW<\/a>  core on <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/westerndigitalcorporation\/swerv_eh1\">GitHub<\/a>.
